This report is based on a number of panel discussions held as part of Afghanistan Week 2024 in Oslo. The 2024 Afghanistan Week took stock of the last three years, examining the evolution of Taliban rule, the international engagement with the regime, and the adaptation of Afghans to the new state of affairs.

The Resilience Synergy: When Climate Actions Enhance Livelihood Opportunities 

The case study documents how the NAC’s climate adaptation initiatives in Shahristan district of Daikundi provinces have improved rural households’ livelihoods by implementing integrated solutions that simultaneously address drought impacts while creating sustainable opportunities in the partner community.

Post harvest infrastructure 

This study examines the critical role of post-harvest facilities in Afghanistans agriculture sector. The research was conducted across four provinces where NAC implements agro-based infrastructure. The study has documented the significance of cold storage in reducing post-harvest losses and enhancing food security, as well as the challenges that impact the effectiveness of the infrastructure.

Learning Proficiency Assessment

The review evaluated how an EdTech solution enhanced learning outcomes for primary school students in Afghanistan. The report presents findings from a quasi-experimental study comparing students who used Rokhana Saba game-based literacy application with control groups in three provinces.

Joining forces against the impact of climate change

From April 21st-April 23rd 2024, The Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC), in collaboration with Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) and the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), spearheaded a three-day climate dialogue and symposium on the negative consequences of climate change in Afghanistan. The impact of climate change is emerging as the primary threat to food security and livelihoods of the Afghan population, and it is crucial that any effort to address it must be knowledge-based.

Baseline Assessment

This assessment is intended to establish an understanding of the living conditions of households in newly selected NAC partner communities. The study focuses on household food security and diversification status, household economic and livelihood activities including agriculture and livestock, natural resource management practices, vulnerability to climate change and natural disasters, and household access to basic health services in targeted communities.

Building Communities’ Resilience to Natural Hazards 

This case study explores how the NAC’S disaster risk reduction initiatives enabled communities in Yawan District in Badakhshan to effectively respond to a major landslide occurred in the village, preventing casualties through effective and timely community-based preparedness and response mechanisms supported by NAC since 2014 in this province.
