Advancing Healthcare Access in Afghanistan

Healthcare in Afghanistan remains critically underdeveloped, with many communities – especially in rural areas – struggling to access essential medical services. The Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC) works to strengthen healthcare by educating healthcare professionals, providing maternal and newborn healthcare, primary healthcare, and physical rehabilitation services. To strengthen the quality of midwifery services in Afghanistan, NAC works closely with the Afghan Midwifery Association (AMA), the largest women-led organisation in the country with over 3500 members.

SUPPORT US

"The Norwegian Afghanistan Committee strengthens healthcare in Afghanistan by training health workers and supporting locally rooted health services, with a particular focus on women, children, and people with disabilities."

Our approach is rooted in community-based healthcare solutions. We prioritise access to quality medical care, particularly for women and children, and work closely with local health authorities to ensure that services are available where they are most needed. This includes operating healthcare facilities and improving access to physiotherapy and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities and with disabling health conditions. To ensure the quality and sustainability of the program, NAC works with organisations of persons with disabilities, professional associations representing physiotherapists, and prosthetic and orthotic technicians.

Through integrating healthcare services with professional training and capacity-building, NAC helps create long-term improvements in Afghanistan’s health sector. Our programmes focus on affordability, accessibility, and quality, addressing gaps in medical care while promoting self-sufficiency within communities.

Through decades of experience, NAC continues to adapt and expand its efforts to meet evolving healthcare needs, ensuring that even the most underserved populations receive the care they need.
