Due to years of war and insecurity in Afghanistan, many Afghans have lost their lives. Left behind are thousands of orphans who do not have sufficient food, shelter, clothing, or other warming equipment during the winter.

Amidst lacking economic resources and infrastructure, the Taliban government has paid minimal attention to these orphans. Badakhshan is a mountainous and hard-to-reach province, located in northern Afghanistan, where winters are harsh. This year, 200 children in an orphanage and educational centre in Faizabad City faced an entire month without as much as a heater or firewood to keep them warm.

In response to requests from the community, the Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC) has supported the orphanage and educational centre with much needed winterization packages of clothes, a heater, and heating materials. The packages also included hats, scarves, coats, socks, shoes, towels, and soap.

– We are thankful to NAC for hearing our voices and supporting us, says Obaidullah, one of the children living in the orphanage.

The future of the country relies on the new generation, therefore, providing life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable part of the population in remote areas is one of NAC’s top priorities. In addition to the orphanage in Faizabad City, NAC has also supported the Qubtul Madaris orphanage in the Andar District of Ghazni Province with the provision of food and other items.
