Maternal mortality in Afghanistan is among the highest in the world. Every year, thousands of women die during pregnancy and childbirth. The Norwegian Afghanistan Committee has long trained midwives and female health workers, and despite restrictions, we continue to educate midwives in Afghanistan — now through practical training for midwifery students who lack this component in their previous education.
